Prairie Lakes continues to fill in Sun Prairie

Wisconsin State Journal

The Shoppes at Prairie Lakes is continuing to grow.

The shopping center at Highway 151 and Highway C in Sun Prairie, which had its first tenant in 2009, will see two new businesses open this week but more are on the way.

Wisconsin Dells-based Monk’s Bar & Grill will open Thursday in the shopping center. It is the company’s fifth location, joining others in Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, Lake Delton and Middleton.

On Saturday, a Beef Jerky Outlet will open in the shopping center. The stores, with 55 locations around the country, feature more than 200 varieties of jerky, including elk, kangaroo, alligator and venison, according to a press release. The Sun Prairie location is the third store in Wisconsin, joining others in Lake Delton and Richfield. A fourth is scheduled to open next spring in the Milwaukee suburb of Franklin.

Like its store in Richfield, the Sun Prairie Beef Jerky Outlet will be located near a Cabela’s store. Construction of an 86,000-square-foot Cabela’s began in June and is scheduled to open in April.

The shopping center, on 110 acres and with a projected build-out of 890,000 square-feet, is also home to a Target, Costco and Woodman’s Market plus several restaurants and specialty stores.

Chad Fedler, one of the project’s developers, said Tuesday that in the last 18 months, 17 commercial and retail spaces have been leased, totaling 36,000 square-feet.

A Spring Mobile store is scheduled to open next month and Wright Vision care in February.

This summer, construction of a 10,000-square-foot outdoor space that features a pond, gazebo and seating areas will be built between Grand Avenue and Hoepker Road, Fedler said.

Marcus Theatres is also building a 12-screen cinema on 11.6 acres between Costco and Target. The 100,000-square-foot complex dubbed Palace Cinema at Prairie Lakes is scheduled to open in spring and include an UltraScreen DLX theater with a 64-foot-wide, three-story-high screen, four Big Screen Bistro auditoriums, a Zaffiro’s Express and a Take Five Lounge.

Developers have also identified a site for a hotel at Prairie Lakes but no plans have been announced.
